Description
A spectacular hardy perennial, Echinacea ‘Fiery Meadow Mama’ features 4″ diameter striking golden yellow flowers with a flaming red to reddish-pink halo surrounding a chocolate brown center cone. The arching petals are long, slender and neatly spaced like Echinacea paradoxa or Echinacea pallida, and the fine-textured, small, lance-shaped and hairless leaves are unique as well. Butterflies love the flowers, birds love the seeds and the long-lasting flowers are great for cutting and use in flower arrangements. With her large flowers over a long bloom cycle, Fiery Meadow Mama will live up to her name setting your garden ablaze in summer. As with other versions of our North American native coneflowers, this one is an easy-to-grow and a low maintenance hardy perennial that is drought tolerant when established and which deer tend to turn their nose up to.
Landscape & Garden Uses
At 20 to 24 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide, the Fiery Meadow Mama Coneflower is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or grouped in sunny to lightly shaded perennial and woodland borders. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, wildflower gardens and meadow gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for groupings or mass plantings; 3 feet apart for space between plants.
Growing Preferences
Fiery Meadow Mama Coneflower is easy to grow and adaptable plant that is tolerant of drought, heat, humidity and poor soil. It prefers a moist to somewhat dry and well-drained soil of average fertility but will tolerate low fertility soils. Will flower heavier in full sun but also blooms quite well in part shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day for best overall performance. Spent flowers can be removed through the long bloom season.
